RU Voting

Mission

RU Voting is a nonpartisan effort to register, mobilize and engage Rutgers University students to participate in politics and vote in local, state and national elections. For nearly 20 years, RU Voting has served as the resource Rutgers University students, administrators, and faculty rely upon for nonpartisan and accurate registration and Election Day information. 


 

Program Overview

RU Voting empowers Rutgers students to become active participants in democracy by registering, educating, and mobilizing them to engage in the political process. Students can get involved through the RU Voting Internship, RU Voting Ambassadors Program, or the Darien Civic Engagement Course.

Students develop leadership and civic engagement skills while encouraging the Rutgers community to register to vote, create a voting plan, stay informed about elections, and participate in civic life.

Eligibility Requirements

    • Must be a current Rutgers University–New Brunswick undergraduate student (Incoming first year students are ineligible to apply)
    • Must be available to support multiple, on campus tabling events from mid-August to mid-November
    • Experience with Canva a plus
    • Interest in encouraging voter participation in young adults
    • Ability to speak to large groups of students at in-person voter registration and mobilization events
    • Ability to work 5-7 hours per week in-person on campus; some work can be completed remotely
    • Currently enrolled as a Rutgers University student, at either the undergraduate or graduate level
    • Not currently running for elected office in the US
    • Must be a current Rutgers University–New Brunswick undergraduate student with a minimum GPA of 3.0
    • Must be available to attend in-person voter registration and voter mobilization tabling events on the Rutgers–New Brunswick campus
    • Interest in encouraging civic skill-building in young people
    • Ability to speak to large groups of students

Responsibilities 

    • Administering voter registration, mobilization, and education tabling events on the Rutgers University–New Brunswick campus
    • Supporting a team of undergraduate volunteers throughout the fall semester
    • Tracking tabling engagement and creating interactive materials for increased engagement
    • Engaging in local, state, regional, national voter engagement coalition meetings and events
    • Researching information on candidates, voting rates, and state-by-state election information for the RU Voting National website
    • Attend a 2 hour voter registration training session
    • Co-facilitate a minimum of 4 voter registration and/or mobilization drives during fall 2026
    • Participate in voter registration and get out the vote events on campus throughout the semester
    • Promote and attend events hosted by the Center for Youth Political Participation and the Eagleton Institute of Politics
    • Share information on completing voter registration, vote-by-mail and important deadlines on personal social media pages
    • Follow the Center for Youth Political Participation on all social media platforms
    • Assist members of the RU Voting team with on-campus voter registration and mobilization events
    • Develop leadership & presentation skills by tabling on campus
    • Become involved in invitation-only Eagleton Institute of Politics events and programs
    • Earn 1.5 credits from successful completion
