Digital Democracy Wall

This Digital Democracy Wall is meant to provide an interactive and engaging democratic space for civil discourse and civic education, with the intent that this content will inspire conversations, connections, and action on campus and beyond.

The videos below take on a variety of topics and formats, some explaining core components of our civic system, while others endeavor to understand students’ perspectives about politics and other important issues.

Understanding Our Democracy

An informed and engaged citizenry is crucial to maintaining a flourishing democracy.

At its core, democracy is a system of government in which power is vested in the people, who exercise their power through voting and engagement in civic life. By exploring the structures and processes that underpin our democratic system, individuals can empower themselves to actively contribute to, engage in, and enact change in these systems.

Getting out the Vote

Participating in elections by voting is a fundamental way for individuals to shape the futures of their communities and country. By casting a vote, a citizen chooses who represents them and crafts the policies that govern their lives. Voting is also a way of holding elected officials accountable, once they are in office. Why do you vote?

Being an Engaged Citizen

Being a civically engaged citizen does not end at the ballot box! Voting in elections is crucial to democracy, but it is just one way to participate in the political process. Engagement can take many forms, including volunteering, community building, attending local meetings, and advocating for important issues.

What other ways can individuals make their voices heard and enact change?

(Social) Media Literacy

In an age when 39% of adults under 30 say they regularly get news from TikTok, it is more important now than ever for individuals to consume media intentionally and intelligently. Being an informed citizen is not passive. It requires active decisions about where and when to seek news and information.
